Hoppy Beer Review

Located in the former Old Ship Inn, New Jersey’s oldest brewery, Descendants has an extensive selection of beers, including several brewed in-house on their Peter Austin brewing system. We started with Otay (4.3%), an American blonde ale, a light selection packed full of classic American blonde flavors.Glass of beer with window in background Next up was A Darker Shade of Pale (5.5%). This pale ale gave us a nice blast of hops flavor combined with a balanced flavor of malt, making it a super, easy-drinking beer. Ending our beer exploration was a taster of Exit the Dragon (6.3%). As a red ale, this beer was smooth, with a hint of smokey flavor that did not disappoint. Not only do they offer a variety of their beers, but they also have a selection of guest beers, including a wide range of Belgian beers, so there is something for everyone’s taste.

Food, Events, and Beer-To-Go

To complement the beer selection, Descendants offers some amazing food.Plate with steak sandwich and french fries with sauce on the side One must-try item is the Jumbo German pretzel served with beer cheese and mustard, perfect for sharing. We also enjoyed the Ship Dip Prime Rib Sandwich, a hearty and flavorful choice big enough to share.

They offer Happy Hours from Mondays to Thursdays from 4-6 pm, which includes discounted prices on the house taps, wine, and some small appetizers. Throughout the year, they host various events, including whisky pairing dinners and weekly live music events. They also have a mug club and offer growler fills to go.

Kid-Friendly Taproom

They had many kid-friendly drink options, and being served in a small child-size plastic cup with a lid is always an A+ in our book! The kid’s menu is excellent, offering classic favorites like chicken fingers, cheeseburgers, mac and cheese, and various menu items that can satisfy even the pickiest of eaters.

While waiting for our food, the kids were entertained with the Family Tree activity on the menu, a fun way to put down electronics and learn some family history. Not only do they offer adult flights, but they also offer soda flights for kids, where they can select several sodas served flight-style, a huge hit at our table. On Wednesdays, Descendants offers a “Kids Eat Free” program with the purchase of an adult entree, burger, or sandwich, which is an unbeatable deal.
