So sit back, grab a cold one, and join us on a tour through the world of craft beer in Bethlehem, PA.
Fegley’s Bethlehem Brew Works
Our first stop for lunch was Fegley’s Bethlehem Brew Works. The Brew Works has been a beloved fixture in Bethlehem since the late 1990s, making it an absolute must-visit when in the Christmas City. With an extensive range of beer offerings that cater to diverse palates, there’s something for everyone. For those new to the craft beer scene, Valley Golden is an excellent introduction – light, yet packed with flavor. And if you’re looking for their signature brews, Steel Workers Stout, Steelgarden Wit, and Fegley’s ESB are all top picks. In fact, former President Barack Obama has even given his stamp of approval to Fegley’s ESB.
But that’s not all – The Brew Works also boasts a tantalizing array of seasonal beers, including the refreshing Blueberry Belch for those hot summer days, and a spicy Pumpkin Ale that’s a fall favorite. And for the discerning beer lover, the brewery offers an impressive selection of IPAs, stouts, and Belgians.
Hoppy Parent Tip- If you sit inside to eat, ask for a booth looking at Broad Street especially if your kiddo loves an up close view of activities (lots of buses, fire trucks, police cars, and some times horses) pass by. In warmer months their outdoor seating is similar.
Grandpa Joe’s Candy Shop
After lunch we begin our family stroll down Main Street. Typically, this is about the time our boys make a request to stop at Grandpa Joe’s Candy Store! Grandpa Joe’s is a sweet experience and a must-visit spot for all candy lovers. With over 250 different types of candy bars and more than 100 bulk candies, there is something for everyone at this charming candy store. Whether you have a sweet tooth for chocolate, gummies, or hard candy, you will find everything you need to satisfy your cravings here.
In addition to the wide selection of candy, Grandpa Joe’s also offers hundreds of glass bottle soda pops. These vintage-style sodas come in various flavors. From classic colas to fruity flavors, there is something for everyone. Plus, the glass bottle is very nostalgic.
Last but certainly not least, the store offers a variety of novelty items, including retro toys, nostalgic candies, and fun gadgets and games. Whether you’re shopping for yourself or someone else, you’re sure to find something unique at Grandpa Joe’s.
Hoppy Parents Tip- We suggest having your kiddos bring a few dollars from their piggy banks or setting a small dollar amount limit for them to spend before going inside.
Hoppy Parents Bonus Tip-During the holiday months, this is a great stop for small, unique gifts, especially for items like stocking stuffers, Easter eggs, and basket fillers.
Moravian Book Shop
Another fun stop…Moravian Book Shop! If your little ones love books you won’t want to miss the Moravian Book Shop. Located in the heart of Bethlehem, this iconic store has been a staple of the community for over 200 years.
At the Moravian Book Shop, you’ll find a wide selection of Moravian University textbooks, apparel, and gift items, including shirts, hats, and more (Book Shop is the home of the Moravian University Bookstore, where students come to buy their textbooks). In addition, the store stocks a wide range of reference books, children’s books, and university faculty- and alumni-authored books.
In addition to books, the Moravian Book Shop also offers a wide range of traditional Moravian- and Bethlehem-themed gifts, greeting cards, toys, and games. These items are perfect for anyone who loves the rich history and culture of the area!
Lost Tavern Brewing
Lost Tavern Brewing is a well-known name among the beer enthusiasts of the Lehigh Valley. Their Bethlehem location, which opened in 2019, has found a home in one of America’s oldest continuously operating bookstores – The Moravian Book Shop.
Situated in the vicinity of the historic Bethlehem Hotel, Lost Tavern caters to every craft beer lover’s whim with an impressive selection of over 15 beers on tap. The brewery has earned a special place in the hearts of sour beer aficionados with its delectable range of “jams,” with the Caramel Apple Crisp topping my personal list. This refreshing sour, boasting a 9% ABV, tantalizes the taste buds with a perfect blend of sour tang and the comforting warmth of apple pie. Lost Tavern Brewing’s tap list is packed with IPAs and they offer other exciting options like the Kickin’ It Classic Cream Ale and the Bridge To The Past Helles Lager. Lost Tavern’s Bethlehem location is an excellent spot to unwind and conclude your day.
Hotel B Ice Cream Parlor
For our final stop today we indulged at Hotel B Ice Cream Parlor! Located just across the street from the Hotel Bethlehem, the Hotel B Ice Cream Parlor is the perfect place to satisfy your sweet tooth. The parlor proudly serves Penn State Creamery ice cream, known for its high-quality ingredients and rich, creamy flavor.
Every day, you can choose from 12 delicious flavors, including classic favorites like chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry, as well as unique options like coffee, bittersweet mint, and peanut butter swirl. But that’s not all – the parlor also features rotating monthly flavors, giving you even more options to try and enjoy.
